Vasen and Dervish play The Glens Centre Manorhamilton
Väsen was started in 1989 by three extraordinary Swedish musicians; Olov Johanson on the nyckelharpa (a keyed fiddle unique to Sweden), Mikael Marin on viola, Roger Tallroth on guitar and play heavenly music based in the rural Swedish tradition with a contemporary flavour. Never before has Swedish folk music swung with such intensity. Together they create more electricity on their acoustic instruments than most rock bands can generate with their amps turned all the way up to "11." More than one rock critic has proclaimed them "the best band in the world". Flying the Swedish flag , the brilliant trio Väsen combine acoustic instrumentation with breathtaking virtuosity and freewheeling inventiveness, thanks to the near-telepathic attunement between the trio.. A number of things set Väsen apart from other acoustic bands. Their musical interplay is phenomenal; a combination of structure and improvisation that makes every performance unique. Their sense of humour also draws the audience in to the live experience. This combination of virtuosic talent and pure joy endears them to audiences everywhere. This is acoustic ensemble playing at its best, with sounds that can connote classical string quartets at one moment and upbeat folk/pop another.
