The launch of the An Post Tour of Sligo 2011 took place on Wednesday last at the Glasshouse Hotel. In attendance for the Launch were Lord Mayor of Sligo Matt Lyons, Barney Whelan of An Post along with numerous others from the cycling and voluntary community. The event is scheduled for Sunday 8th May and it is hoped that participation numbers will surpass the highly impressive entry of cyclists last year.
The event has received a huge boost this year with confirmation that cycling legend Sean Kelly will once agin be cycling on the day. Already, the participation of Sean Kelly in the event has generated great interest locally, nationally and from oversees with everybody looking forward to having the chance to meet and cycle alongside such a great cycling legend.
The event is part of An Post Cycle Series 2011 which comprises of five recreational cycling events across the country between May and September with other venues including Clare, Meath, Waterford and Cork. The series is supported by An Post in a joint venture with the Irish Sports Council while locally the event is being co-ordinated by Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership.
The key message emerging from the launch is to encourage as many people as possible of all ages and cycling ability levels to ‘Get on Your Bike and join with cycling legend Sean Kelly at An Post Tour of Sligo 2011’.
