Background
Now in its 12th year, Strandhill Gymkhana was revived in 1997 after a break of 42 years. Since its revival, the Gymkhana and Craft Fair have become an important part of Sligo’s summer events list.
Each year the grounds of Lisheen House and estate host our show, with the kind support of the Lindsay family. All the events are set in the green fields edging Ballisodare Bay, under the shadow of Knocknarea.
The Personnel Involved
A dedicated committee of 20 members organizes, fundraises and co-ordinates the staging of each year’s show. In the weeks leading up to the show, and on the day itself, a large number of additional helpers from the Strandhill and Ransboro area join in with the preparations, making the Gymkhana and Craft Fair a community venture in the truest sense.
