Sound And Vision Festival @ The Model Sligo

A festival celebrating the music film genre

This exciting new festival features concert films, musical documentaries, films which popularised major movements in music history, films defined by their soundtracks and landmark moments of musical and cinema history. We also have a special children’s programme with dress-up and sing along family screenings and animation workshops.

MODEL SHORT FILMS SHOWCASE
Wed. Nov. 23: 6.00pm – 7.30pm Free
Free screening of a selection of recently made Irish short films as part of The Model’s SOUND+VISION film festival.
This is an exciting opportunity to see some exciting work by young filmmakers, as The Model presents a diverse selection of short films,
which showcases exciting, emerging, new talent in Ireland. Showcasing the sheer diversity and creativity
within Irish filmmaking and includes work from independent filmmakers, and students from IADT, University of Ulster and Queens University
and also a selection of screenings from this year’s Belfast Film Festival. The International Fund for Ireland kindly supported this ongoing project in showcasing young talented filmmakers in Ireland.

an enigmatic short film by Dean Kavanagh.
 
Sleight of Hand
Dir: Bob Gallagher/IADT/12:00 When Laura returns home for her Grandfather’s funeral after a long estrangement from her family,
she evades the simmering tensions by immersing herself in memories of her grandfather’s magic act.
 
Rickshaw Rick
Dir: Robert Manson / Ireland / 10:36 Screened at the Corona Film Festival and the 2011 Belfast Film Festival.
Ricky falls for a girl on his rickshaw, discovering she has lost her handbag;
he rushes into the Dublin night to meet her.
 
Yuki Dir: Jonathan Beer

It documents a day in the life of body-boarder, Shambles…
 
Omar Dir: Kacie Smith/N Ireland/10:29
MA Film from the Queens University, Film Studies Department -
having settled as a refugee in Belfast, Omar strongly resists cultural assimilation;
while haunted by the happier memories of his past life.
 
Little Straw
Dir: Ryan Wu/ University of Ulster/ 2011/ documentary/ 20:00 Fang, a 15 year-old boy living in rural China, must give up looking after his blind father
in order to set off to the city in search of work.
This film gives a human face to the impact of the global financial crisis.
