Germany's top jazz guitarist for Sligo Appearance
One of Germany's top jazz musicians comes to Sligo's TLC, Tobergal Lane Club on Thursday February 24, when Armagh based drummer David Lyttle brings a superb group featuring Germany's rising star of jazz guitar and vocal, Torsten Goods. Imagine George Benson on guitar and Michael Bublé on vocal all rolled into one fine performer, and you have Torsten Goods. He is accompanied by Lyttle on drums and the great Scottish double bassist Euan Burton, with a special guest, guitar prodigy Andreas Varady, returning to Sligo for the first time in 2011. Sligo was the first audience to get a glimpse of this Limerick based boy wonder last year when David Lyttle brought Andreas there for a weekend of concerts. Andreas was subsequently one of the stars of the jazz festival, appearing with guitar great Martin Taylor at the age of 12 and with Irish legend Louis Stewart on his 13th birthday. Since these appearances and a subsequent tour as special guest of Swedish jazz ace Andreas Oberg, young Andreas Varady's star has risen even further, with rumours of an imminent appearance on the cover of "Guitar Player" magazine and musicians from all over the world clamouring to be in his musical company, including Germany's finest, Torsten Goods. Catch Andreas Varady, certainly Ireland's finest young guitarist, in action with one of Germany's best new talents. Add Ireland's finest young drummer and Scotland's rising star of double bass, and you have an exciting night of youthful exuberance heralding a new, cosmopolitan era of jazz. David Lyttle Quartet featuring Torsten Goods and Andreas Varady appears in TLC, Tobergal Lane Sligo, 8.30pm Thursday 24 February. Adm €15/12
