Moonrise Kingdom @ The Model

Announcing the screening of the perfect feel-good movie in
The Model Cinema:

Moonrise Kingdom
Directed by Wes Anderson

Selected to open this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Wes Anderson’s seventh
feature sees him return to live-action, following on from his Oscar winning
animation, Fantastic Mr. Fox. Also director of the hipster’s favourite, The
Royal Tenenbaums, Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom has all the hallmarks of
his distinctive style; carefully colour-coordinated costumes and sets, gracefully
choreographed camera movement, a well-chosen soundtrack, mannered
performances and, of course, that singular sense of humour. His films always
tell of slightly unattainable characters that are strange with each other and
their surroundings yet are connectable as they are vulnerable, human and
best of all, funny.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, the story follows
two troubled 12 year olds, Suzy and Sam, who fall in love and run away
together, sparking a manhunt involving his scoutmaster (Edward Norton),
her parents (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand), local law enforcement
(Bruce Willis), and an imposing figure of social services (Tilda Swinton). The
period setting, a first for Anderson, allows him to fully indulge his stylistic tics,
creating an engagingly warm and witty film that’s a strong addition to his body
of work. Moonrise Kingdom is screening in The Model Cinema, on 27th, 28th
and 29th June at 6.15pm and Sunday 1st June at 3.15pm and also screening
on 5th, 6th and 8th June at 8.15pm.

“Sensitive and independent, Anderson is in his own right a brilliant and
inventive film-maker” Thierry Fremaux, Cannes artistic director.
“Fleet, funny, impeccably orchestrated” Total Film
